The current contract between the NFL and the world leader through the end of the 2012 season, but an eight-year extension agreed to by both parties was signed this morning, keeping ESPN Monday Night Football in season 2021.
The agreement, as reported by Sports Business Journal, ESPN also offers the rights to the Pro Bowl, and a virtual monopoly on the rights of note that the network will be used to launch a series of new programs of study NFL issues. There are also language granting of ESPN mobile technologies and broadband, enabling viewers to watch the games via Internet connections and tablet devices like the iPad.
The agreement is valued at $ 1. 9 billion per year, which is a price increase of almost two thirds in value of the current bid. It does not, however, grant ESPN (or ABC) access to postseason games, the league is adamant on keeping on television. In total, the offer is worth $ 14.4 billion, or $ 29,411 per second of live action shows ESPN NFL.
