When the Baltimore Ravens drafted the speedy wide receiver Torrey Smith of the University of Maryland in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft who believed they were getting a potential tiebreaker. However, a weak season resulted in the negotiation of the Ravens, seven-year veteran Lee Evans to fill that role.
Smith certainly does not disappoint his coaches and teammates about the notion that he was not ready for prime time by recording zero catches in the first two games of the season. But Baltimore rookie turned to a spark inactive for Week 3 against the St. Louis Rams Evans.
Say, has exceeded expectations. For starters, Smith caught three passes. But those three receptions for 133 yards was in the first quarter. Oh, and all were touchdowns.
12: With 20 left in the first quarter, Joe Flacco found Smith ran by the band and hit him with a touchdown pass of 74 yards. With 3: 38 left, Flacco looked again Smith, who easily ran after the Rams secondary for a touchdown reception of 41 yards. Less than two minutes later, Smith made a catch much harder to jump over Rams cornerback Justin King and coming down with the ball in the end zone for the third touchdown.
With the help of Smith, the Ravens set two franchise records: one for most offensive yards in the first half with 406 and a greater amount of offensive yards in a game with 533.
"I've been doing well in recent weeks. This week I definitely had my best practice as a crow." Smith said that after the easy victory 37-7 in Baltimore. "Me and Joe were clicking on all pages."
Flacco and the star linebacker Ray Lewis, told reporters after the game about how impressed they were with the performance of Smith.
