Injuries are usually common in the Eagles training camp at Lehigh, but this team has surprised the summer, also for a couple of unusual medical conditions for two of its owners. Although nothing has been confirmed yet, either Mike or Jeremy Maclin Patterson, we are hearing a possible good news for both.
First, the agent Mike Patterson spoke with some members of the media on Friday, but did not elaborate, which allowed it was "very likely" play this season Patt. By Jonathan Tamari Inquirer:
"All medical reports that we both looked at have been very favorable and positive. We are waiting for doctors to make the definitive diagnosis and final treatment plan." Patterson asked if he could play this year, [the agent] said, "is very likely to happen," but added, "again, I'm not a doctor."
Agent Patterson also added that he will have more information on Monday, and will make an announcement at that time. The seventh-year defensive tackle has something known as an AVM, which although a serious brain condition that may require surgery, is also very treatable. The Eagles have been reluctant to provide any timetable for his return.
Meanwhile, as fans continue to speculate about the mysterious illness Jeremy Maclin, and there is growing concern that it could lose a lot of action in 2011, Andy Reid is trying harder is to put the fires.
Wide receiver entering his third season left the team last week to visit doctors in his hometown, St. Louis, but the coach remains positive about having the second half of his one-two, telling reporters after the preseason game Thursday night:
"I think he'll be ready [for Week 1]," said Reid. "I guess I'm optimistic. I'm waiting for the results, but I'm optimistic."
Maclin has been practicing at all during training camp, the Eagles and the addition of Steve Smith did not help alleviate the rumors floating around. However, it should be noted Smith was transferred to the unable to list today. If he starts the season on the PUP, which is not available until week 6.
The fact that they do not know is certainly daunting, but neither the team nor Maclin seem to believe that going to impact his career, much less this season. The first game is now only a month away, however, we'll know soon.
